Béla Szilárdi
(b. 1940)
Béla Szilárdi was born on 12 November 1940 in Budapest and graduated from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1963. Until 1970 He became a member of several symphony and pop orchestras. In the same year, he started to work as a photographer for several Hungarian newspapers (Gyermekünk, Óvodai szemle, Tükör) and at the Research Institute of Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1971 he moved to Saarbrücken, Germany and started to work as a photographer for the Saarbrücker Zeitung. Later he worked in Munich as a photographer for several magazines, such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Münchener Mosaik and the Quick. From 1980 he worked as a graphic designer, designing postcards and wrapping paper for twelve publishers and paper mills. In 1985, he became a member of the Bavarian Artists' Association (BBK), and in 1987 to the Hungarian Artists' Association. In 1990 he studied Computer-Design in Munich. In 1993, he moved back to Hungary, to Gutaháza, a small village in Vas County, where he built a studio next to the residential part.
László Fábián praised his work in a book entitled The Transavantgarde of the Transavantgarde, published in 2007 by Orpheus Publishing House.
